Psychiatry Philosophy and Arts

Psychiatry Philosophy and Arts

PP+A is a network of people from all walks of life who are interested in the relatedness between Psychiatry, Philosophy and the Arts.

Mission of PP+A

At PP+A, we are interested in all aspects and points of views from mental health professionals, students, patients, and outside observers. We encourage the discussion of all philosophies including ancient or modern, Eastern/Western, spirituality/religion and how they relate to overall artistic expression of the human condition through music, artworks, paintings, language/writing and creativity and as whole.

Our mission is:
-- to recognize and promote the interrelatedness of psychiatry, philosophy and the arts
-- to provide a safe space for discussions about the mind, psychiatric conditions, philosophy, and the impact of the arts on the mind and the spirit
-- to explore the link between psychiatric conditions and creativity, often described as the thin line between great works of art and madness.

PP+A offers a discussion forum generated by an online publication of articles and creative works (photography, videos, music, etc.) which you are invited to contribute here.

We welcome your participation!

Forever ago

FOREVER AGO

You were here, I saw you

I touched you your heart

You touched me my heart

But, that was forever ago

Then one morning in April

You were in the air flying

Then you were gone in a split second

those are the facts

And, that was Forever ago

Today I remember you

I remember your smile

Your laughter

Your calming voice

The memories of you

are from forever ago

Life has went on

Most of the children are… Continue

Katys smile

I have a little pendant I wear around my neck
In it there are some ashes of a child I'll never forget
The pendant keeps me grounded
it keeps me on my toes
I wear my little pendant and where I goe it goes
Sometimes I wonder and ponder just the same if in my little pentant
Katies smile will remain.

Butterfly

Butterfly

I think back when I was a small child running in field of beautiful blue bells and there were always butterflies

I remember lay in the fields of blue bell, watching the butterflies if I held very still they their colorful wings would sparkling in the sun shine

I would carefully touch them so I would not ruin the felt on the wings; Mommy always said that made it so they could not fly

Then I would lay and look at the clouds forming many different shapes and sizes… Continue

The Race

The Race

She runs long blond hair traveling behind her

She runs her blue eyes sparkling

She runs so fast she outruns her shoes

They are laying somewhere back there in the grass

She runs she has to be first

Her Dad follows, yelling for her to come back

She barely hears him as she runs faster

Her finish line is now in sight

She puts her head down and runs faster

She finally reaches her finish line

She is winded and sweaty, but she… Continue

Little Did He Know

Little Did He Know

Written April 7, 1993

Little did he know as he boarded the small fixed wing plane on that chilly April morning, That this would be his last flight ever flown.

Little did he know as he strapped the patient securely on his gurney, That when he kissed his wife goodbye last night it would be the last kiss ever given.

Little did he know that as he secured himself in his own seat, That when he waved goodbye to his sons last night it would be the last wave… Continue

Drown in Yourself

You're so horrible, you're so great

It's always something exaggerated

Like that time you drunk an ocean of something

Or at least that's what you said

I think you must have had enough to forget

Wish the rest of us could say the same

Because you ego gets us tired, it drives people insane

You will drown in yourself one day

And find all this time, you were really dead

The sign on your door says don't tread on me

But apparently, you don't see… Continue

I hit the ground

I HIT THE GROUND

I hit the ground

my face in the dirt

you step on my back

and, oh does it hurt

My face in the dirt

My heart shattered

You act as if

I really don't matter

no one to help me

No one to care

Everyone walks by

and just leaves me there

Misery pores through

my veins and my pores

I look up and all

I see is closed doors

Why can't you see that

my hearts still intact

You just stand… Continue
